I have had this for about 4 years and was using it mainly through a Bellari Phono amp from a turntable to do vinyl downloads. A couple of weeks ago I plugged in a pair of AudioEngine speakers into the outputs and have been listening to streaming audio as well.
I know this unit is EOL and I did get the latest drivers, dated last month, but this thing has always been a little squirly, it loses connection to the USB port and only a power cycle gets it back. It's the only device on the USB hub, so that's not the issue.
So I'm looking to replace this thing with something current. What's available out there that has both analog inputs and outputs in an external USB box? As long as I'm replacing it something that supports 24 bit 192khz downloads would be nice as well.
Thanks, Jerry

If you are trying to do 24/192, USB can be iffy. can you do PCI?
the audiophile 192 card sounds pretty nice, and has both digital and analog ins and outs.
RME Fireface 400, if you must have USB, they make a USB version as well. Linked below.
Happiness is a clean record, and warm tubes!
Dpends on your budget. A Musiland unit is cheap, has solid drivers, and sounds better than the emu 0404 as well as being 192k capable with digital out,
I have not been impressed by the emu sonically.
He is looking for both analog inputs and outputs. Does the Musiland have analog inputs? As far as I know, he has to go pro-audio for inputs.

Take a look at the E-Mu 0404 USB. Analog inputs and ouputs (balanced), headphone output, spdif output on coax and toslink, and high sampling rates. I can't speak to how glitch-free the output is at sampling rates higher than 96 kHz, but the sound is quite good for the price.

Thanks, Alan. I looked at this one and it should have occured to me that the balanced input would only require an XLR to RCA adapter. I'm more concerned with hi rez inputs than outputs anyway. The search continues...

The analog inputs on the EMU 0404USB are "combo" XLR, you can plug in either an XLR (including 48V phantom for condenser mics) or a 1/4" plug. To get line level RCA in you use a RCA to 1/4" adapter.
It CAN record at 24/192. What it won't do at 192 is the S/PDIF IO. But it works fine for analog IN/OUT over the USB.
So it works fine for recording analog at 192, but you cannot use an external ADC running at 192 and use the 0404 as a way to get that 192 stream into the computer.
