I'm trying to convert Apple lossless to AAC for my iPod and it keeps crashing.
I'm not worried, I'm sure 8.1 will be here soon :>(

Try converting with Max. Yeah, iTunes is definitely not perfect. They fix one thing and then screw up another. But at least its sounding good.
Is there software that will convert to Apple Lossless other than iTunes?

Yes. For Windows, use DBPowerAmp. For OSX, Max.
Thanks. DBPowerAmp has a better user interface for my purpose than the software I had been using. I like the bulk conversion capability plus the range of CODECs it supports. I converted some WMA lossless files, FLAC files, and Apple Lossless files both ways and verified that transformations both ways were actually lossless. (I am not one to trust software as being bug free.)

You can use Max for conversion:

On a Mac, that is. I'm sure the PC has something similar.
