Thanks Abe I'll try it later tonight. I'm getting a lot of problems with non-replicatible behavior and very confusing menu options both in JRiver and the Zen Stream Web UI. I'm giving it a rest for now and trying to get some other stuff done. When I approach this again I will have to carefully document my experiments. I also noticed rebooting my MacBook Pro, and the Zen Stream as well, changed the behavior sometimes! I may have to do a series of experiments with reboots in-between. Fun times. :(

Hi Abe and others interested:
Well I got DLNA working, but it often takes a few tries each time I start playing something.
DLNA is working in two senses:
1. When I'm running JRiver on my MacBook Pro I can direct sound to my Zen Stream. I guess at this point it would be acting like a "network streamer" or "network endpoint" or what is the term? The data is coming from the MacBook, and flowing to the Zen Stream over WiFi, and from there to my USB DAC.
2. When I'm in the Zen Stream Web UI (at 192.168.211.1) I can see my MacBook as a media server and play files from it.
I also have the Zen Stream running in a third way:
3. I have a USB drive plugged into the Zen Stream and I can navigate its folders and choose files to play.
There are some sound quality differences between these three methods. Playing off a USB drive plugged directly into the Zen is far more exciting and dynamic (micro- and macro-) than the network methods. I'm not sure how the other two methods compare. I'll do some more listening.
Looks like progress if it's consistent.
