I would like to implement a simple way of controlling Play, Next and Stop in Foobar. Can anyone please advise on how to do it?
I have Win Media Centre but have not enabled remote control via Media Player as I don't like or want to use this. Can I control Foobar with the Microsoft system.
The reason for wanting this function is so that I can have video silence during playback.

Follow Ups:
I can control Foobar with my laptop remote. Everything except opening the library and choosing CD files to play. But I can do next, forward, rev, stop, play, and vol.But I am sure someone can develop a plug-in for remote usage like JRiver.

I love this laptop...I got 2 gigs of RAM inside dual AMD processors and reduced the number of processes its running to give all its power to what I want the most. Vista is cool but I like playing Foobar better. I can use my remote that has a slide in tray on the side when I dont need it and the sound is great. All I need to do now is upgrade my battery. This is truely and Entertainment PC.

Easy, use usb "presenter remote and create hotkeys in Foobar.

The most flexible remote on the market is firefly. Using RF, not IR and has a respectable range. Completely programmable with XML for any application and has a foobar preset.

I tried buying one online. The unit is $49, shipping is $50 USPS. How silly can they get!
I have a Hauppauge digital TV card (I know, in the same machine that plays my music - surely not!), and all the relevant IR-remote functions work with WinDVD, Windows Media Player etc' - but with Foobar, only the previous, next and stop functions .
Can you set up hotkeys in Foobar preferences?

Indeed you can.Now you mention it, is it simply a matter of finding out what those keys are in WinDVD/WMP (I've never used hotkeys with either), and then change Foobar's to the same?

It is somewhat easier. You can have Foobar react the way YOU want it to when certain buttons are pressed.
Go to preferences and hotkeys and create a new one.
YOu will have to pick an operation like mute, or volume up, etc.
Once you do this, there should be a blank space where one would normally type in a key or sequence of keys. All you do is press the button on the remote, and it should put some input into this box. NOw when that button is pressed, Foobar will do what ever you told it to do when that button is pressed.
There is also a check box to make a hot key global. If checked, it means that Foobar will do the activity when that button is pressed, whether it is an active window or not. All the hot keys I have done needed to be global.
Note that this only works if the remote you have creates codes that mimic keystrokes. The USB remotes I have used all had buttons that did this, but some would do other commands that were not keystrokes, so those buttons wouldn't work.

I'll give it a go later today, and report back.

If you want to reuse the media centre remote, try something called Hip (www.byremote.com.au) - it's free.If you want to be more sophisticated, try something called girder (www.promixis.com) which you have to pay for.
There's also imon (www.soundgraph.com) - it doesn't have native support for foobar, but you can easily reconfigure the keys.
