Anybody try this?
I have all the gear and will do so tomorrow.
Of course I have the superb LPS1 power supply for the uRendu as well.
My Melco is the new NA1 Mk2.
Follow Ups:
Well, the Melco cannot convert DSD to PCM with the Ethernet output so this was a non-starter for me.
I had a look at your profile and cannot find any details of your system. This means that I cannot really understand what your problem is. I am assuming that it is simply that you don't have a DAC that handles DSD. So if you have DSD files then even without the Melco you still have to convert them to PCM to hear them. Why don't you just use whatever method you have been using for converting them before you got the Melco then load these converted files onto the Melco?
I am sure that you have some reason why this may not be possible but without any idea of your system configuration it is difficult to make what I hope would be a positive suggestion. I also cannot figure why you want to feed a music server into another music server.
Of course if the Melco is connected directly via USB to the DAC it will convert the DSD files to PCM.
Yes, exactly. The Melco converts DSD via the USB output, but can't do that via the network output. So it's not really a problem.
The Melco sounds at least as good as my Mac Mini + uRendu/LPS1 setup directly via the USB out. I thought I'd try the network out for kicks, but no loss really.
So are you going to return the Melco ?
Where on Earth did that come from? It works fine with the USB output.
You don't describe your system setup in your profile so we are left to speculate.
"Well, the Melco cannot convert DSD to PCM with the Ethernet output so this was a non-starter for me."
To me that means it didn't do what you want so maybe you would be returning the Melco. Sorry, I can't read minds.
Hey, no offense, man.
(TBH, I am amused at the forum fights I see going on here. This is just a stupid hobby, people.)
A day later, I now *have* compared closely sound quality between the Melco and my Mini/Rendu setup, and prefer the Melco by a good margin. They are both stellar transport systems, but the Melco is more refined, with lower "noise floor" (whatever that means, exactly, in digital terms).
Good to know that you're pleased with the sound quality. Have you found suitable software to control it via your computer or tablet?
Linn Kinsky has proved acceptable - after I upgraded my Mac laptop to Sierra. Before that, it crashed constantly.
The new Linn app can't find the Melco.
Audionet crashes on startup.
Open to suggestions, but Kinskey is workable enough.
