Added this to my Raspberry Pi setup yesterday. Wasn't sure a liked the changes it made until I had a longer listening session today. The sound seemed a little "dull". Realised that what I had originally perceived as dull was a lack of sharp digital edges in the sound that I was used to hearing. Also hearing new details in old test tracks that were previously hidden behind digital noise. Guitar solos popping out into my living room, Cymbals appearing above the speakers that I never noticed before, electronic pipe organ sounds that I never noticed were part of the mix. That sort of thing.

Finally. Congratulations.
I'm enjoying the Kali for quite a while. I'd fully agree with your findings.
1. Make sure that you have a separate PS on the Kali. I run mine with an iPower.
2. I use the Kali MasterClock as synchronous clock feed for my HAT DAC.
It's quite an improvement over e.g. the local async clocking scheme
for my Sabre HAT.
DACs like the Allo Piano2.1 ( which use the On-DAC PLL as master)
will also benefit from such a master-clock config.
Enjoy.
What DAC are you using and are you running it over I2S ?
Seems like a Top Hat board but not so obvious what software/firmware needed to make it go?
LMS compatible? Seems to be.
I have I2S inputs on both my DACs (one RJ45 the other HDMI) but not sure what is required to make this board work?
They must be talking about the I2S on the main Pi board as there does not appear to be am I2S jack of any kind on their board?
Really not enough info on the web site to make an informed decision to go this direction, at least for a dummy such as I. :-(
I have the Mamboberry DAC+ and I'm using Rune Audio. I have a 3A linear power supply with a barrel connector that plugs into the Kali. The Kali provides filtered power to both the Mamboberry and the RP3.
I plan on trying my HIFIberry+ again and revisit other software options such as Volumio, Moode(which I purchased a key for), and LMS. LMS was a huge step backwards in terms of functionality and sound quality with every other hardware change I made, but I want to leave no stone unturned.
So I tried my HIFIberry plugged into the Kali and the difference is not quite as night and day as it was without the reclocker.
Without the reclocker, there was no question that the Mamboberry sounded much better. The biggest difference was that the HIFIberry sounded so noisy compared to the Mamboberry. I guess the noise was jitter related because now the HIFIberry actually sounds a touch smoother and more musical than the Mamboberry.
The Mamboberry sounds a little more bold and reveals maybe a little more detail, but more often this just comes across as a little harsher. I also have to wonder what effect the Mamboberry's own reclocker is having on the sound. Is it re-reclocking the digital signal and actually adding jitter that was not coming from the Kali? Maybe the HIFIberry sounds better because it has no reclocker and I am just hearing straight Kali....
