all I know is the DAC has to be on and set to USB in order to recognize it.
what distro are you using? Still piCoreplayer?
I know in linux systems I've tried if the DAC isn't set to USB and on at the time of boot the system won't see it. Sure there is USBhotplug or whatever it is called, but that's what I found with my experiments.
Follow Ups:
one of the lights on the Meridian Explorer 2 comes on but that's about it.
I don't know it works with my computer.

Was just curious to see if the Meridian Explorer 2 (which is listed as supported on the PiCoreplayer page) would decode MQA when running through the Pi.
Guessing it would if I could get it to work but...
I still have a MacBook Air nearby that I can use as a player for those few occasions where TIDAL actually has some MQA content I wish to hear. That or do the software decode in the TIDAL player and run it to my normal DAC (the one with the expensive chips). ;-)
That ain't often!
I am jealous of your DAC chips.
my Auralic Vega is sounding pretty good, for high-res I use DSD which is probably 2 albums at the most. I LOVE high-res PCM though when I can find it (still waiting for DXD++).
I've recently been in contact with the band Ektoise on bandcamp. One of their albums I forget which one I bought a custom high res recording. The recording and mastering dude told me he wasn't aware of high-res quality initially and after mastering at high-res he was impressed and might remake some albums since he has the sources into high-res.
Do check out their self titled, you can if you want a taste download the FLACs from there.
on TIDAL.
Which one is better?
Most if not all I can't remember are free downloads in FLAC 24bit on bandcamp.
In terms of your question, BOTH.
:).
Dementia it seems, please bare with me.
Ektoise is a 24 bit FLAC download fo free. Try that one ;).
I downloaded the AIFF version. Did I still get Hi Rez?
Shows as "2116kbps CBR, aif" in LMS player.
Music reminds be of myself in the early 70's. Guy cam over to my place and looked at my stacks of LPs and asks, "You do a lot of drugs, don't you?"
Now I'm so old I can't remember to recharge the battery in my 'vape'. :-(
