That said, MoOde Audio does sound great playing directly from a USP stick, but, at the end of the day that's not how I intend to use the Raspberry/HiFiBerry setup.
It's basically replacing my MacBookAir as a music player in the living room where I have my DAC/Headphone Amp and away from both the office and the listening room which is in a high ceilinged loft overlooking the front of the house.
Mostly used for streaming TIDAL and QOBUZ but with the ability to also stream music from a Thunderbolt drive attached to a headless Mac Mini which is on all of the time, has LMS loaded and is located in the main system.
It sounds great, certainly every bit as good as the MacBook Air streaming music to the USB input of the same DAC/Headphone Amp.
All and all, a successful experiment which, but the the assistance of many here, I doubt that I would have accomplished.
Currently running off of a 5V/2.1A 24,000 mAh battery but for simplicity's sake would prefer a reasonably priced 5V/2A LPS.
Or an unreasonably priced one because....
I'm STILL and audiophile!
Follow Ups:
Enjoy some music, that's what I have doing with this experiment.
Good to settle down.
Congrats !
U can also use MoOde as a squeezeclient (squeezelite) as you might know. Then you could use your MAC (or PC or NAS or a 2nd PI3) as file (samba/nfs), LMS (spotify,qobuz,tidal...), and UPNP and ... whatever server.
That's how I do it. That's much easier to handle in a home network.
However. All these LMS streaming plugins (spotify,...) do not offer the functionality
you'll see on a dedicated app. That's IMO a bit annoying.
I'd then prefer to use an iPad-app and stream via Airplay to e.g.
Moode or PcP using their Airplay implementations.I tried PcP as LMS server on a PI3 the other day. Data were accessed via NFS. Such a setup IMO actually works quite well.
All these MPD (music player daemon) only based distros (Rune,Volumio) are not my first choice. MPD comes with numerous limitations.
PicorePlayer, Diet Pi or Moode in squeezelite mode will do.
You've got a ton of options. And most of them do not even perform and sound that bad.
Enjoy.
