High end software? Based upon exactly what? The same $35 computer and equally inexpensive HiFiBerry adapter are used here.
I'll pass on paying $1100 for a fancy case, power supply and warranty. :)

One can definitely fiddle with a Matricom G Box, it runs android, probably all you need, I'll put the link below to it from Amazon. Google Play store works with it.

As a software developer myself, I would rather use something that's been in the field for years and years and tested and refined by huge numbers of users vs. adopting something with little actual use.

Which limits you to Redbook quality. Why limit yourself to 1980 era resolution?
I have an Auralic source. DAC and Transport.
Maybe 2 high res albums.
