So, you don't have any digital music stored at all?Cut-Throat
Follow Ups:
Like Bullethead I have about 500G of music on a disk, but I rarely listen to it.
I am having more fun discovering new music that I don't have.
Every so often if I find a really good artist with a good amount of material under their belt I might buy some CD's to rip [used]. But as it stands I haven't listened to my HD music in about 6 months.

Me Too ! .... I have 1.5 TB of stored music, but rarely listen to it.
My point was; that it is still on-line and available and accessible. And you still have to have a File Server of some sort to access it.

I have about 500gb of music on an HDD drive I plug in.
Where do you 'Plug it in'?
Also, since you stream a lot are you into Jazz? If so, are you familiar with the Russian Jazz Stations on Tunein Radio. 24 hour uninterrupted great American Jazz. Commercial Free. And at higher quality than 99% of the other stations in the World...

first RP 3 I had I made a NAS with a linux distro, that's how I was playing to the Sonos, gave that away. The setup now I plug into the USB port on the RP 3.
so I have to correct myself, I don't know how Sonos sounds with a HDD directly plugged into it, you can't do that with the Connect. But from memory the RP 3 and the files directly connect to it sound better than from the NAS to to sonos.
I can play it on a RaspberryPi running PcP?
Of course I may not be technical enough to figure out how to do that, even with a video to watch and the positive encouragement of inmate 'Cut-throat', but I could TRY! ;-)
that's not what you want to do. Run LMS on a separate PC/server. For me, that is a no-brainer since I use multiple players (4). Why replicate server functionality for each player?
An RPi's 1 GHz internal memory is the limiting factor. Rather than have it house PcP and LMS, it's far better to use the memory to buffer the output so that you're playing from memory.
just LSD,
whoops you means the software, LOL!
I have no idea how it works, you figured out the issue you had by yourself when we talked. IP address was the key.
:)
