Wifi is still unreliable, I have auto switching radio channels with 5ghz wireless AC and capability for deep packet inspection and traffic molding with Ubiquity networks equipment. Verizon manages my network because they sent me a letter saying hey don't trust me to do it after they found out I was messing with them using my own equipment and I understand why the worry, that is about $10 extra a month for network maintenance. My bill is $170 for internet and VOIP with no TV.
Follow Ups:
Move to San Francisco.
Chinese stores sell cheap cigarettes, and my Gigabit Fiber is only $55 (including taxes) month including a internet, fax line and VOIP. And they let me use my own router.
I tried the 5 gHz setting with my WAP300 access points and found performance suffered - especially to the garage where the signal has to go through a number of walls.
Yes, 5 GHz has less range than 2.4 GHz.... So, understandable.... I use 5 GHz when my distance to router is only 10-30 feet and no obstructions.
