Has USB "purifier madness" blinded us to the possibility that the audible noise/distortion we hear actually comes from our downstream equipment?
Follow Ups:
Have at it.
...a more expensive 'audiophile approved' solution because we all know that more expensive is always better. Just look at any recommended components section of just about any audio rag. I'm saving up for a thousand dollar USB cable. ;-)
Recently:I liked the $450 sMS-200 better than the $640 microRendu.
I also sold my MSB Technology Analog DAC / Analog Power Base for the lower priced Ayre QX-5 Twenty. I liked the Ayre better.
So as we all know, more expensive isn't necessarily better. But, you can't dismiss something as bullshit until you have tried it. On the other hand, I have financial limits for this stuff just as most of us do.
I guess I've reached a point in my life that I don't have to rationalize not owning some of the very expensive components. I try to enjoy what I have.

Of course there are exceptions and I've experienced a few too. My comment was a generalization supported by what we generally see in the mainstream audio rags.
I'm enjoying what I have as well and can't justify 'upgrading' to every newly released accessory.
Nor should you update! When I'm finally kicked to the curb as a reviewer, I will happily live with what I have.
To see what crap their USB bus(s) are..... (at least for high-end audio performance)
It took high-end audio designers a while, but they finally deduced that mult-function computers just can't get one SOTA sound: as a few folks & myself have been saying for quite awhile....

They deduced that it's in their best financial interest to dismiss and even bash perfectly viable solutions based on general purpose computers as these do not line their pockets with cash.
And many timid technophobe audiophiles have bought into their market brainwashing hook line and sinker in order to justify their complete inability for even the simplest of DIY effort in favor of store bought turnkey appliances approved by these high-end designers and the audio press: a few folks & myself have been saying for quite awhile....
Sure, that's why we need to sell you a microRendu or an sMS-200.

"Sure, that's why WE need to sell you a microRendu or an sMS-200."(Emphasis mine).
No truer words...
Agree that getting the computer out is the best thing to come down the pike in some time.
But in most if not all cases, it's just replacing one computer with another.
My personal goal would be to have a $100 Raspberry Pi as a streamer, with $10,000 worth of accessories in front of it, behind it and hanging on it to make it sound better!
$1,000 LPSs on every router and/or switch in the house a good start?
I think so. =:-0
Your'e going to need a nice "Audiophile" enclosure for the RPi, otherwise it will never sound good.
Or good SPDIF board, or just one regulated USB output, no video, a combo OS/player, more RAM, a better NIC, galvanic isolation, etc....
In other words, much better hardware & OS, like say, a microRendu or SMS-200.....

Very clever how you led up to the mRu.
If it were only say $500 cheaper.

peeling off the thin plastic sheeting on both sides of all SEVEN parts of the case (including the part I didn't need)?
Maybe a copper inner enclosure, or just copper foil laminated onto the pieces of plastic?
Could be!
I put copper foil in my cases.
Going to the post office this afternoon, I'll send you a foot or so if you want.
OK, I've got some from my tube DIY days. Perhaps a bit thicker than you used. How thick is the stuff you used?
Be more interested at this point in turning off both radios(WiFI and Bluetooth) in the Raspberry Pi (if they are even on when not used?).
Don't know why I would need conductive glue.
Basically its a Faraday cage.
It's all just for fun. Nothing more.
