I promised myself that when I retired I would get my turntable up and running again. I have been out of the vinyl end of the hobby for some time. I can't believe the prices of high end tables, arms, cartridges, etc. $990 is chump change in the vinyl game.
Follow Ups:
Go to some live concerts instead. $900 should buy you some pretty good seats.
There are tons of fantastic artists out there, most of which never make prime time 'fame' but are still very very good. In some cases these people might play in very small personal sized venues and their tickets are actually cheap or sometimes even free.
Unpacking a new toy is fun but it can't match even a single night or live music and the memorable experience it brings.
Back when I was younger [and more free] I used to find these types of events at least a few times a month. Sometimes I'd drive 4 hrs to Chicago on a Friday to catch a set, spend the night and drive back the next day. The money and time spent [even the memory] beats out any audio hardware costing 10x the price.
When/If I retire I plan on getting back into the Swing of things and catching more Live Music.
Once I even flew to NY to see BBKing at the Apollo [only 4 rows from the front] had dinner afterwards and flew back on the Red-Eye. All for less than what I spent on a pair of Acoustic Zen IC's.
