I wouldn't say won't work. There might be interference.
However. There's quite a simple way out. Buy a $10 wifi dongle
and connect that one.
Usually you can load the required modules via the WebInterface
afterwards. Just check with the guys in charge.Or you might consider my preferred networking solution:
A micro router in client mode attached via ethernet cable to the PI.1. No interference
2. No WLAN related load
3. external quality power option
4. better WLAN performance
5. No driver issuesto name some advantages.
Enjoy.

Thank you so much
I know there's a list of "approved" dongles somewhere. Where is that.
I found a recommeded dongle here along with instructions on how to set it up. Perhaps other inmates will find this helpful
http://raspberrypihq.com/how-to-add-wifi-to-the-raspberry-pi/
The recommended dongle is available from Newegg or Amazon.
Keep in mind:The kernel module for a certain dongle/device - the driver - needs to be compiled and made available by each and every distro.
You can't rely on generic Rasbian information! You also can't rely, especially not on extremely stripped down systems, such as TinyCore (the PcP base) or systems with custom audio kernels
that a specific module is available.Make sure before you buy your dongle, that it'll be supported!
You need to address the PcP, Moode, Volumio, Diet Pi, asf. folks directly to be on the safe side!Note:
If you've chosen your preferred distro, you have to look for a related support thread and subscribe.
Don't hesitate to ask for support over there! - before you do your buying decisions.
Good luck.

FWIW I tried your suggestion of using Ethernet to one of my wireless repeaters and it works like a champ.
The wireless repeater/client setup lowers quite some network originated issues.
In commercial USB gadget terms - it isolates, regenerates, reclocks, ... (I guess soon we'll see a $200 iNet-something popping up somewhere).
2 easy options u might try on top:
1. Better power supply for the repeater
2. Cut 2 pairs of your ethernet cable (pins 1,2,3,6 green/orange stay, blue/ brown pairs go)
Enjoy.
Are you saying that a decently powered wireless access point (as client) sounds better than using hard-wire back to the router/server? Sounds like an interesting tweak..
I have a Netgear powered wireless repeater.
No it does not make your music sound better, it just gives you a stronger more stable wireless signal...as the product was intended.
