Keep it as simple as possible.
Nothing more complicated than plugging something in and unplugging
Follow Ups:
I have no intention of firing up the soldering iron or the 'scope just yet, if ever.
Unless and until I get a decent work area in the back of the garage to set up all of my tools and test equipment, I'm a kitchen table guy anyway. The wife gets antsy if she sees a soldering station on the kitchen table anyway (unless I'm fixing something of hers, of course).
Would be nice to see a schematic of the HiFiBerry board though. Did I miss something on their web site?
And yes, I do intend to power the RaspberryPi through the conventional uUSB port, even going to start with the cheap wall wart before going to a battery pack.
First big task is assembling the cheap plastic case.
That could be the first stumbling block as it came in about 100 small pieces. =:-0
And it's only $15.... I have 4 of them.

Oh ye of little faith...
In fairness, it took far longer (more than a couple minutes) to peel all of those pieces of protective plastic film off the parts than it did to assemble it.
Any special formatting, etc. need to be done to the microSD card (new SanDisk Ultra 16G because that's what I already had) before flashing with etcher?
Just like Grannies Couch.

OK, at 9 months they ain't 'kittens' anymore but we do have ALL of our cloth furniture covered in plastic till the stop scratching on things.
Picture above NOT our couch, but that's the plastic covers we bought!
Remove the CLAWS, problem solved and plastic off.
But we do trim them weekly, but they never a bite or a scratch us, and after a while when they are used to using their scratching boards, the covers will come off and no more problems.
At least that's how it's worked with other cats we've had.

Seems like this project will be much too much for you...
Somehow things present themselves to you at a much higher level of difficulty than the rest of us...for example a 100 piece RPi case. My plastic case only had 4 pieces and each piece could only fit in one space.
but it would appear I'm not alone. ;-)

I might be in trouble..!!
Wait a minute are you being sarcastic now? Or was it before?
