Ease of fabrication? Some of the layers are identical.

Is, I was trying to understand why they used layers, instead of 6 sides for the case.... I also have an acrylic case that just has the 6 sides.

I'm convinced it is just a production decision. The little sucker is quite stout because of that thickish screwed together approach.
Yeah I think its all about fabrication and has nothing to do with magical audiophile properties.
Of course it might be some sort of harmonic resonance cancellation and tuning due to layering. The layers could also scatter and deflect any EMI/RFI.....Hmmmmmm, Nah.
