I'm still waiting for the power plug adapter. Ordered it from 'Zon and has been shipped, but do not have a delivery estimate.
The darn thing is so cute! Here is mine in its acrylic case - which came with three small heat sinks.
My plan for today is to get the memory image loaded and anything else I can do(?) before it's official power up. A while back, I bookmarked this "How to" page anticipating the eventual need. Is this a good resource?
Also, I ended up buying a 4GB Class 4 card and discovered I already had a standard speed 2GB card. It seems the piCore player is both small and becomes resident once booted, so I gather using the larger and faster memory chip wouldn't offer any benefits.
What else am I missing?

I may try one of these cases for one of my 6 Rpi...... Where do the heatsinks go and how do they attach?
They attach via adhesive backing. Two protect the Broadcomm 2837 processor and SMSC LAN9514 chip on the top side of board and one on the Elpida memory chip on the underside.

edit: I think I discovered part of the reason for the modular layered design. You can begin with a standard case and add the "Top Hat" functionality later.
The reason for the Layered design probably has to do with the problem of connecting the sides. The case I have has slots to attach the side pieces and top and bottom..... But by using layers, they can just stack them up and use the 4 screws....So that makes sense....
Sound wise I am very pleased with my Rpi and like the additional Functionality of PiCorePlayer gives to the Player. Looking forward to your review or your RPi in your Main System.
One of the more useful things in PicorePlayer is that you can set up something to start playing on your Rpi on a Hard Startup.... This couold be a playlist, Radio Station etc.. etc.
I use this for a small system set up in our main bath. I got a Teac Amp/Dac combo with the Rpi feeding it all hooked to a Surge Protector plugged into a Wall switch. This is all on a shelf about 10 feet high. So, all my wife has to do is throw a switch and her favorite radio station is playing. She uses this every morning.
One question I have, When looking at your picture of your Rpi Case, it looks like there are layers of plastic.... Not sure I understand this. I also have a clear case with just 6 sides that lets you see everything inside.
Also, try out the Rpi in your main system and give us your impressions...

Yes, it is a layered acrylic case from Zebra . It was a bit of a puzzle to assemble. Each layer was protected on both sides by film, so I had to remove them first. Then insert board, stack each layer and screw together.

Do you know the purpose of the layers of plastic are for the case?
Ease of fabrication? Some of the layers are identical.

Yeah I think its all about fabrication and has nothing to do with magical audiophile properties.
Of course it might be some sort of harmonic resonance cancellation and tuning due to layering. The layers could also scatter and deflect any EMI/RFI.....Hmmmmmm, Nah.
IMO it is 'worthy' of being placed in someones main system.
Only thing is, its difficult to get over the mental thing of having an inexpensive device playing with multi-thousand dollar gear.
Bryston thinks it's worthy. Their Pi is stuffed into a nice box with LCD screen and it's only $1295

It seems it does not support DSD. And for PCM it can only go up to 192K. So it does not support DXD.

Yes of course its worthy, they stuck it in a fancy case for the audiophiles that can't get over that mental thing I posted about....plus of course to enhance profit.
2A @ 12V?
RPIs generally use 1A @ 5V. The uRendu uses 1A @ 7V.
The BDP-Pi also has an LCD display and supports external USB disks and DAC, so they have to take those into account in the power budget not knowing exactly what devices customers might attach to it.
I'm sure the BDP-Pi doesn't draw anywhere near 2A but Bryston may have spec'd it at 2A to be on the safe side should customers decide to use their own power supply. USB disks can be relative power hogs especially during spinup. And -some- DACs derrive ALL of their power from the USB port.
When I measured the uRendu I saw that its current draw was only 200mA (0.2A), maybe a tiny bit more only during bootup. With a USB DAC attached it drew a total of about 240mA from the power supply. That "extra" 40mA was for the USB receiver in the DAC. On another DAC it remained at 200mA as that DAC supplied its own power to the USB receiver. Some other DACs, like those of the Dragonfly variety and similar are powered entirely from USB and could draw even more current.
You have a good point. One doesn't have to spend a fortune to have a very good sounding system.
But some of the great sounding gear is not cheap.

I just finished a review that will be turned in today for layout that compared 3 relatively expensive power supplies. I'm curious how your selection sounds.

It took me decades to come to the realization that "You have to spend a lot of money in this hobby, to realize that it doesn't cost a lot of money".
The Etcher flash tool will be able to flash the SD card...less than a minute.
You already have LMS running somewhere?
If not you can actually set PiCorePlayer to run both LMS and Squeezelite.
Everything else should be a snap.

I first installed the burning tool found in the initial link and it was unable to "lock" the device for imaging.
I found and installed the Etcher tool which worked like you said. I think I'm ready to go!
Yes, I've been using LMS for some years now.
While I use a uRendu in the main system, the RPi will replace the last of my Touch players located in the garage system.
All you need to do once powered up is to:
1) Enter the Picoreplayer ip address in your web browser
2) Select the "Squeezelite Settings" tab
3) Use the pull down to set your output device
4) Let Squeezelite Restart
Picore will auto-magically connect to LMS and you're jamming.
I gather I must wire it to my router for initial configuration and setting WiFi WEP before I can turn it loose. I noted a WiFi tab in the PiCoreplayer settings.
Yes, just use the WiFi Tab and enter your router password etc., it reboots and done.
You might have to hard wire it via ethernet first to get access from your browser.
Dynobot, does this Pi setup include an onboard DAC (mezzanine card), or do you drive an external DAC via USB? thanks
You can choose to buy on On-board DAC board for the Pi or just buy the Board with digital outs to use your own DAC.
Thats not my Pi, but it looks like it has the HiFiBerry Digi+ board on top. Which means its set up to use SPDIF output.
