The 'Grouping' tag can usually be used to contain a work/composition title but, like I say, this is virtually never available from online metadata databases, so the individual listener must provide it.
Then, of course, there is the matter of searching by by work/composition which practically no players provide. I have added a few work names in 'Grouping' but is scarcely worth the effort given this fact. Instead I put the full work name in the 'Title' tag.

Follow Ups:
They say iTunes (the store) populates the grouping tag.
As I never bought something from iTunes I can't confirm this.
Getting the composition is indeed trouble some
GD3 does it , AMG too, but certainly not 100%
Gracenotes, MusicBrainz often even don't recognize the album.
I populate my composition tag (and Opus and year composition) by using the MusiCHI tagger.
Save me a lot of time.
With the player I use (MusicBee) I have no problems searching and displaying custom tags like "Composition".
The problem with most media player imho is the inability to tread compostion as a unity, just like albums.
