Shorter is not just a great player, but an excellent composer as well. I lean towards his earlier work, especially the 60's Blue Note releases. That being said, he still has it, I saw him live a few months back and he was great. His quartet consisted of Danilo Perez, Brian Blade and John Patitucci.

I recently picked up his 2nd or 3rd release, entitled 'Second Genesis' on the Charly label. I highly recommend it for Shorter fans, it was a real find for me. Another great quartet, Cedar Walton, Art Blakey & Bob Cranshaw. Hard bop & driving featuring mostly Shorter originals & a few standards.
