Was fortunate to see The Buena Vista Social Club at the Paramount Theater
years ago and just as fortunate to see this band at Yoshi's later on.
Just incredible...

Follow Ups:
Cachaito was Israel's (Cachao) nephew.
Israel and his brother, Orestes, composed hundreds of tunes mainly, danzones. His sister also composed, Isora Club is one of hers.
Their father and grandfather also played bass (other instruments as well, but the bass line -hee hee-- run i the family), and directed bands.
'Social Club Buenavista' was composed in the 40's by Isarel. It's a real place, in a real neighborhood.
Tradition was that a band would composed to danzon to a place they played it. So you see danzones from 1905 with the improbable name of Deutschland.
(Best as I can figure named after the German cruiser that hung around the Caribbean around that time waving the Kaiser's flag, and visited Matanzas around that time.)
The BVSC grouping is/was based around the Afro-Cuba All Stars (lead by Juan de Marcos, former tres player for Sierra Maestra), with some Santiago muscians added in (Ochoa, Compay).
I saw Cachao in his last concert. This was at the Arsht Cneter in Miami; the concert was released as 'The Last Mambo,' I think this received a Grammy.
Got lucky on one of my trips to SF and saw Septeto Nacional at Yoshi's.
Check out Cachao's Master Sessions.

Bimbo's 365 Club here with that INCREDIBLE band.
He was indeed a Master.
One of the most fantastic nights of music I've been privileged enough to attend.
Andy Garcia was doing his MC thing, which I'm sure you know about and the night
was recorded but I don't know if ever released. I've done a little searching but, nada.
Bless him for putting a spotlight on Cachao.
Will check out Last Mambo, guess I got...distracted...and missed it.
The Cubano music is stunning. SO much of it, SO many different styles and
forms from one teeny island. A constant source of inspiration and fulfillment.
A gift.
Those three shows I've mentioned really were highlights of over 50 years of attending
live musical performances and seeing some of the best and most acknowledged
musicians in the world, of ALL genres.
Musta been the clave!
We'll have to get some Arsenio Rodríguez going on here - another deep well of
influence and endless inspiration.

Andy did the MC thing at Arshe too, but did not make it to the CD.
Here's one you may have missed, Cuba Master, Los Originales
bass: Cachao
trumpet: 'Chocolate' Armenteros (Benny More's cousin)
piano: Alfredito Valdes ('el orgullo de Günies' - that's my home town, home fo Roberto Torres, Tata Guines, and Arsenio Rodriguez, a teeny town in a teeny island), his father was the sonero for Septeto Nacional in the 30's.
piano: Alfredo Rodriguez
Juan Pablo Torres, trombone and director. He also directed the brilliant 1979 Estrellas de Areito jam sessions but that's a topic on its own.
Incredibly, I was able to find the CD - all my discs are currently randomized - so here is a pic with the credits.

That doesn't look familiar, I'll have to check it out.
Problem with a lot of the Cuban stuff is it was issued/reissued on CD
with various labels/covers which messes with my visual acuity.
I was fortunate to have worked at Amoeba music when the BVSC
HIT, and the amount of GREAT Latin music that started to flow in
correspondingly more than made up for my previous decades of
not really knowing where to start, plus the LPs were RARE
in these parts.
Been playing catch up for years with still a lot to discover.
Doesn't help that my Spanish is abysmal OR that I'm, well... disorganized...
So, I'll look for that.
Very cool you are from Guines!
I have the Estrellas de Areito series on Egrem LPs (what a label of treasures) and
like it much. I appreciate Juan Pablo Torres' important place in the continuum.
Not much of a fan of the more contemporary music from Cuba, like post 1980
or so, but the "traditional" music rock my soul.
"Currently Randomized". Love it and as much as this stoopid pandemic seems
to want to give me the time and space to unrandomize mine, it doesn't seem
to provided the energy.
