This flew outside my radar. A box set came out about 5 years ago (now OOP) with new tracks but also completely remixed for vastly improved sound. Someone must have found the original tapes. You may recall the original LP being muddy. No longer. On this link (Dance of Maya) you can skip directly to the shredding at about 8 minutes.
Follow Ups:
I was at this show (Saturday) Wollman Skating Rink, Central Park NYC. Thank goodness I can almost remember it like it was yesterday. Temperature wise it was a beautiful evening in the park. For some this would be the last time we would see the original Mahavishnu Orchestra together live. They broke up later that year. totally electric, totally on fire you would have never guessed the were having personnel problems. No other band has ever even come close since. What bothers me somewhat is that all the original members are still alive and maybe not as dynamic as the early 70s I continue to wonder if a small café reunion is totally out of the question. Thanks for posting.
I saw this line-up at Woolsey hall in New Haven in 1973 after being drawn in by Billy Cobham's Spectrum album. White linen smocks and a double-neck Gibson SG sums it up.
