More from Ali Akbar Khan.
The Water Lily Super Audio CD is supreme - one
of the few "audiophile" CDs I've kept (have heard scores of them)
because of the VERY superb SQ over the standard version.
This includes other Water Lily titles (a label I very much like).
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination"-Michael McClure
Follow Ups:
When released there was either an article or an in-depth review of Indian Architexture and another Water Lily LP in TAS. Both albums received extreme raves. The writer felt those 2 albums were the finest recordings ever made by Water Lily and if I recall correctly among a handful of the finest recordings ever.
As a fan of Indian classical music I felt privileged to live a few miles from his Ali Akbar Khan College of Music. They had frequent concerts with performances by Ali Akbar Khan, Swapan Chaudhuri, Zakir Hussain and other well-known Indian musicians. The college also sponsored a local Indian cultural festival with many musical and classical Indian dance performances. Such good stuff.
In addition to being a world-class musician Ali Akbar Khan was a gentle man and a superb host always striving to ensure concert goers felt at home. He had a way that made people unfamiliar with Indian classical music to enjoy what they experienced at his gigs.
Anyone interested in acquiring the Indian Architexture LP I suggest watching ebay and being patient. Sooner or later one will turn up at a reasonable price--sometimes good deals are available during summer months.
Water Lily Acoustics is a Great label-
I have some of his Vinyl offerings - stupendous
I help him set up once at Mt Carmel in Santa Barbara - he has a GREAT old 2" studer tape deck....
Happy Listening
very nice,
I just picked up the 80 minute raga (Raga Kanara Prakaar)
This has Ali Akbar Khan on the Sarod and Mahapurush Misra on the Tablas.
For anyone interested in Indian Architexture on DSD (the SACD you have is rare and out of print) there are DSD downloads available for around $40 I've seen. I may jump on that next month. I just have to install an OS and the software which can download it. These download managers make it hard to do with all these sites and Java nonsense. I am a linux user 100% or I would buy that one today.
