While I'm aware that most professional pianists or at least the ones I'm familiar with, play Steinway pianos, there are some who play Yamaha or Fazioli. Out of curiosity, are there any recordings that would demonstrate the difference in the sound of the different brands, for instance the same pianist playing different brands in a studio or two different brands recorded simultaneously in the same studio? I'm not a pianist, I just want get some perspective.

My boyhood home featured my grandmother's pre-1929 "Parlor" Grand. Gramms had a lot of patience; my mother regularly beat us.

Bought at estate sale of original owner 30 years ago. She had received it as a gift on her seventh birthday. She grew up to become a professional organist and composer. Elvis Presley recorded one of her songs after it was stolen by a music publishing firm in Tin Pan Alley. She sued them and won. She was her own attorney in the case. So, good for her!
I had the piano rebuilt by George Michalski who was trained by Steinway in Poland. It looks like new.
Must sound awesomely good. I wished I had properly learned the Piano.

With any luck, if humanity lasts that long, in a hundred years some deserving musician will have it.
And hear the difference in person. I like Steinway. The early ones have better sound boards...not sure exactly, but let's say pre-1950s.
I once did a comparison like that at a now-defunct piano store in the Los Angeles Area...... The differences I thought were really interesting......
I can't say I've heard direct comparisons in a recording, but I can say that guys playing piano in the jazz and particularly in the experimental scene tend towards Yamaha. One model in particular, I don't recall which, is favored for its access inside the piano, where guys will 'prepare' it with bits and pieces of various things or just pluck the strings with their fingers...or whatever.
...the classical guys who play a big Bosendorfer or Steinway Concert Grand with their power, dynamics and bass.
