I remembered discussing black metal here a few years ago, and buying a Burzum CD at that time.
I looked it up- you were also involved in that discussion.
Here is the kicker- it was very close to 17 years ago. That shocked me more than a little bit.
Looks like I was 23 years old at that time. If I could do it all again and start from life again from 23 years old I wouldn't ...Which Burzum album did you wind up getting 17 years ago?

As you recommended I ordered filosofem. So I know I listened to it at the time, but I get lots and lots of music and it is in some stack of CDs somewhere and I have long forgotten what it sounded like. Perhaps will explore on the net. I don't know if you read The Wire, but their genre list best of 2017 for rock was a top 10 of metal related. And I explored that list a bit. Names like Thy Art is Murder, Gravetemple, Vassafor and Hellatar.
I haven't heard of any of those bands, probably better off because of it.
cheers!
I am very sorry that you actually like to listen to this stuff, whatever it is.
that's alright. I do. You have to be of a certain background and mindset to understand and appreciate it. This album and Burzum's others from the early 90's are indeed masterpieces. I burned out on tired formulaic rock music years ago.
early 90s Mayhem, back when Euronymous was in the band, before he was killed by Varg. Who is Burzum.
This seems like the birth of black metal, at least from that area of the World.
Something so uplifting, really especially the latter tracks from this era, with the ambient at the end.
Yes many argue Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas was the birth of black metal, at least in Norway, but of course when push comes to shove it was Venom's first two albums.
the drums on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas are mind blowing.Venom can be credited, I have a friend who drew a connection between Black Sabbath, Black Metal and believe it or not Reggae Music in a straight line right to Death Metal. Even while high on the bong I can't get him to reveal the secret between Rasta Men and black/death metal. He might be writing a book.
