. . . and when that nurse comes in to my room saying, "It's time for your medication", it's Mantovani's inimitable "La Mer" (not Debussy's, and certainly not Glazunov's!) that I want to have playing in the background. . .

There's a Chocolate ad that has Piaf or an imitator.
There was a woman locally that did a Piaf Show, there was even a Ballet that used her singing with the Ballet Orch.
Just can't tolerate that nasal Piaf sound....
I agree about the nasal sound but she, along with a few others, are so bound up with the essential character of a particular song or two that anyone else is just an unsuccessful imitator. La Mer and Je ne regrette rien are examples.Bob Dylan, anyone?

I'm sure you're right, but at least I can understand ( some of ) Dylan...
Maybe if I understood French I would appreciate Piaf more.
understanding Piaf's French is another story.
Botstein, Edward Gardner, or Chailly?

You'll welcome the End.
Of the piece, I mean...
I have this one, but I'd go for the Bergen on in Hi-Res.

Did I???
