Personally, I can't resist. The corporate sound of the Auvergne Strings is absolutely gorgeous. Very "woodsy."
Follow Ups:
Just listened to his the other night. Sounds really good on LP!
But I guess I will have to get this. Is it available on CD? Though I would prefer 135 to 95, the only one from the middle-late groups I don't like.
.
I would bet on the VPO, too, but I'm not as sure about Bernstein.
With QOBUZ Sublime + (but I don't have it yet).
...if you can get it to work for you. I still have no resolution to my problems and it is beginning to look as if other subscribers to the English language service have the same difficulty in playing the Sublime+ samples.
Streaming et Imports en
Hi-Res 24-Bit jusqu'à 192 kHz
Sur plus de 90% du catalogue Hi-Res de plus de 70000 albums
Guessing that they are claiming that 90% of the catalog is in 'hi rez' and I'm guessing that means a lot of it has to be 24/48 FLAC?
But 70,000 albums sounds a bit light. In the old software I could get that many albums back in one search. OK, not really, but search for 'Bach' in the old software and they list 20,000 albums and change!
The English version says:
The Qobuz family has a new member: Sublime+. Streaming and unlimited offline listening in 24-Bit Hi-Res on almost all of our 70 000 Hi-Res albums, with discounts all year round on instant downloads: Sublime+ is setting the standards for online music.
So 70K it is.
As for format, many tracks delivered to record companies from the studios will be 24/44.1. This is now an outdated format to the extent that the minimum advisable studio/client format recognised by the AES is 24/96.
Note that some titles would appear to offer under 24 bits if 24 bits are for "almost" all.The almost seems to be 90% of the 70K, given the French version of the wording. So there must be some 18 or 20 bit tracks there to qualify as hi-rez. In respect of sample rate, other than the 44.1 tracks ( I suspect largely pop genre), there are a few 88.2 and, I expect, a large number of 24/96. As for above this and < 192 I doubt that there are many.
Qobuz have claimed elsewhere "over 30 million tracks" . The numbers do not add up.
Now I understand.
They have MANY more albums than than those 70,000 Hi Rez albums available for streaming.
But 90% of 70,000 is a good start.
Think I'm in!
I have no idea how to count total albums or tracks available for hi rez streaming in Qobuz ...
But I noticed that many albums designated "hi rez" on Qobuz are hi rez only as downloads, they stream as 16/44.1. Regrettably, all of BIS and Chandos catalogs ...
Maxim, what you say is the case with the CD or Sublime subscriptions. However I am given the impression that with the new Sublime+ option most ( all?) of those listed as hi-rez will be streamable in that format.
Admittedly there is some ambiguity. If I could get the Subliem+ sample to work then I might be tempted to subscribe to it and find out for sure.
NB: all of the albums listed as hi-rez are streamable in plain vanilla Sublime but only after you purchase them ( I am not very clear what the benefit is as if you own the stuff, why stream it?).
No, with sublime+ many titles from "hi rez" labels --e.g. BIS, Chandos -- are streaming at 44.1/16 only. But you can dowload them in hirez from Qobuz.
Thanks Maxim. So, as far as Sublime+ is concerned there is less to it than meets the eye :-)
BTW, when you say download in hirez do you mean just download or purchase and download?
Have not tried to "just download" yet.
How does one tell, for example, that a title will stream in Hi Rez?
They say 70,000 titles, but that could be just 24 bit?
Please keep up posted.
Are you getting anything in 24/192?
I thought hi rez is defined as 24 bit: 44.1/24 is hi rez ... While 96/16 recordings do not exist ...
My sense is that in classical music Qobuz sublime+ offers hi rez streams of certain labels (DG, Decca, Sony, RCA, Harmonia Mundi, etc) but limits it to 44.1/16 for other labels (Chandos, BIS, Naxos, etc).
I have not found anything above 96 khz so far, but I have not been looking ...
Keep us posted if anything changes.
Over the last year or so I've seen some labels only available as 30 mp3 streams (Chandos, BIS, etc.), then for some reason, be available again(but sadly not Channel Classics).
Hopefully it's just a matter of getting the labels on board?
Let's hope so.
