Shrinking, shrinking, shrinking. They put up a blanket to block the old Jazz and Classical Room. Sorry upside down.
Follow Ups:
was Amoeba SF. Stole all the glory from the original shop and became their main competitor and
the favored child until Hollywood Amoeba opened.
It's been slow slide down hill for the Berkeley shop for almost 20 years now.
The lot of bitter, burned out employees there certainly don't help.
Not to worry though; it will likely be re-birthed as some sort of potshop/record store
in the not so distant future. Everyone being stoned while shopping and working there
should REALLY help matters!
Oh, wait...

Don't forget its predecessor--Rather Ripped Records from around 1970...
Was there last week and I was shocked to see how things had changed. (It had been maybe a couple of months since I last visited.) Used to go there daily when I worked at UCB. Sad.....

They're afraid of the anti conservative student and outside groups, like I was afraid of them in 68-73.I bought some good LP's there about 8 yrs ago.

You'd think that they'd have more inventory than ever, with folks dumping their CD collections, but, as you say, their stock seems to be shrinking instead (at least in the classical section). And of course, they never get any new releases these days. I guess it's really that bad.
I read a news report that said they have permission to open a medical marijuana dispensary on the premises.
I'm not feeling quite right.
Gimme some weed.
Opened "Center for Anachronistic Media" across street from Amoeba. Most youngin's download I suspect.

How is the Haight Ashbury one? Happy memories but that was ,blimey, 18 years ago.
I went there a lot.
Always had new SACDs on the New Rack.
Much better selection than in Berkeley.
