I've not heard any Szell from HDTT yet. I'd love his Wagner and Stauss to be transferred!
It it helps, I'm very happy with the Walter Columbia recordings, such as the Francescatti/Walter VC. They're equal and sometimes marginally better than the Lp sound.
Bottom line: if it's a performance you absolutely love, give it a try. There's a sample you can download in 96/24.
Follow Ups:
Pick up the Campoli Tchaikovsky VC which includes the Graffman/Szell Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto. That way you can hear one of their fantastic Golden-Age Decca transfers while also gettin a taste of what can be done with Columbia/Epic.
Thanks, but that would be the Szell HDTT remaster that I am least interested in. I have enough recordings of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto (Francescatti/Mitropoulos is my favorite), and I plan to reach my grave without ever having to listen to the piano concerto again (but the Graffman/Szell is a good performance).
