. . . there used to be a uTube video of her performance of the Barber too (excellent IMHO!) - with a European orchestra and conductor AFAIR. Anyway, they must have taken it down, because I just looked for it and it no longer seems to be there.
The work itself has not sustained its interest for me (or for Madeline) - it still comes up every other year it seems (for accompanying - first two movements only - I've never played the last movement). That Scottish Snap theme in the first movement now seems particularly dopey. Just our opinion of course! ;-)

Who gets your vote?
Barber or Shostakovich? Who am I missing? Gotta be one or the other, right? ;-)
.
I downloaded both Buswell's on Naxos and Gluzman on BIS but neither had the melancholy and "glow" I need.
DANG! And Gluzman can lay it on pretty thick when he wants to.
Now I gotta try him again.
For Barber second movements, hard to beat the Cello Concerto above.
What I miss in the Gluzman Barber is more a recording issue. Just a little more "glow" would have been nice. The Scottish strings on the Naxos issue get screechy above the staff.
I'm very jealous you have access to Qobuz. I noticed that my beloved Adler Mahler 3rd is 24 bit! I almost downloaded Tor so I could get around the restrictions but then decided that would be kind of obsessive behavior. Especially since you can download it for me on a flash drive and I'll pay you for it. : )
So the downloader finally stopped crashing and automatically downloaded to iTunes in Apple MP4-A (m4a) file extension.
Or so it seems.
All eight tracks, about 1.8 GB.
I don't use iTunes on the laptop I used to download so who knows? Need to convert to AIFF for playing on my Mac Mini, so there's that.
Anyway, we all get to go to jail (in FRANCE!) if I put the music on a stick. ;-)
.
24/96 download (maybe).
Can play it using VLC but my DAC does not display sample rate so I have no idea what's coming out of the USB port.
Sounds pretty primitive and I see no reason for selling it as a 24/96 file except to make money.
As the 'hm' silver disk is 'remastered', or so I recall reading somewhere, it may end up being the better choice.
on Lp at least. Had it all: large soundstage, very good, even resounding bass, uncongested climaxes. Maybe accidentally MP3? Or crappy remaster?
IMHO most mono gains a little bit more in warmth and liquidity at high sampling rates.
(Logitech Media Server) to a Raspberry Pi player then into my DAC/Headphone Amp.Understand the appeal. Adler 'gets' Mahler. Or at least he knows how present Mahler so that WE get Mahler!
Logitech Media Server sees it as follows:
Album Artist: Frederick Charles Adler
Composer: Gustav Mahler
Track Artist: Frederick Charles Adler, Performer, Conductor - Orchesterverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, Performer, Orchestra - Gustav Mahler, Composer
Album: Frederick Charles Adler, Orchesterverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, Hildegard Rössel-Majdan : Mahler: Symphonie No. 3 (Mono Version)

Just got the 'hm France' CD today as well.

So you get a stick with BOTH if I can figure this computer stuff out.
Good news here is that I THINK I figured out how to download music and especially from QOBUZ which, at the current exchange rate is pretty cheap.
This was 6 Euros! Right in my price range! Paid over twice that for the double CD after shipping.
Can't wait. Actually, the original Apple Lossless file moved to a stick would be awesome. My Sony accepts it, without having to convert to FLAC, etc. Gotta keep those bits pure! : )
I may try to use Tor as a search engine, as there's way too many goodies on QoBuz, especially from Sony. Great prices too.
I can hear the groove noise in the backgrond.
AND...
Because I'm a vinyl guy, I like it better that the 'hm France' 2CD set. ;-)
You'll get both on a stick in exchange for a FULL REPORT.

Once you are in their system, it doesn't matter where you are as long as your log in is valid.
I gave them an address in France and I pay via PayPal by Euros.
Don;t recall how I got in, do know I upgraded while in France but that was years ago. They used to offer a 'classics' only streaming service for about $10 Euros a month. Once the Euro crumbled I went for the whole package at $20 Euros or so.
The files I have are coded at .m4a which claims to be 'Apple MPEG4-audio'. For some reason, LMS has no problem decoding and playing it, nor does VLC.
Going to be over 80 deg. by noon today on the Peninsula where we bike. See you later this week if I survive. =:-0
I bought a used copy of the 'hm' CD which should arrive in a week or so.
Can't seem to get QOBUZ to download as it requires a special QOBUZ 'downloader' which crashes when I try to open it. :-(
This is not a new problem as I had the same problem downloading something I got for free from a record label in Europe which only downloaded with 'their' downloader.
Sorry.
