+1 A number of famous trumpet players had their own sound and didn't just imitate Miles. Somewhat strange comment, IMO.

Follow Ups:
From the L.A. Times obit, December 30, 2017:
"Although his playing, especially in the earliest years, reflected the influence of Clifford Brown, Miles Davis and others, he said saxophonists were most influential in his development, often specifically mentioning Coltrane's "sheets of sound" as an important source."
QED. But I have not heard Freddie Hubbard, so I will give a listen.
Empyrean Isles, Maiden Voyage, Blues and the Abstract Truth, Hub-Tones, Ole , among others.
Don't forget "Goin Up". I ordered that cd just before he left us.

So I went on Amazon and found your suggestions plus an album called "Interplay" that Hubbard recorded with the great Bill Evans.
From the liner notes:
"Bill Evans had recorded only sparsely with horn players when this session was cut in 1962."
This is a must-have. Thanks!
"Interplay" has been in my collection for a long time. My other favorite Bill Evans disks are "You Must Believe in Spring",a must, desert island stuff, my favorite Evans recording hands down. Other favs are "Explorations", "Affinity". "I Will Say Goodbye", and "Time Remembered". "I Will Say Goodbye" has the same personel as "You Must Believe in Spring". Has a similar feel but nothing beats "You Must Believe in Spring". It's up there with "Kind of Blue" in it's psychological impact, IMHO. T456

It's a nice album. The title tune is great.
"Ready for Freddie" is one if not my favorite recordings of his. A bit on the commercial side but he does some great playing on "Sunflower", a Milt Jackson date. T456

Thanks. I'll look for it.
I love Ready for Freddie. Blue Spirits is under the radar as well as his two Impulse dates.

I don't know Black Angel! I will look for it.... If you want to hear Freddie at his ball breaking best, look for Above and Beyond
I believe on that date, the saxophone player did not show up so Freddie played enough trumpet for two soloists! Out of his mind playing on that record.
