at Davies.
Came to hear Blomstedt conduct the Bruckner 3rd (as one should).
Went away talking about her Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3. And NOT because the Bruckner was a disappointment, it wasn't.
The performance was that good. What was 'good' about it? Who knows? Maria Joćo Pires just has that ability to communicate what she is playing in a way that might make one think they are hearing a piece of music played for them alone.
Some of it could have been Blomstedt's attentiveness to every nuance. We sat in the Terrace behind the Cellos and rarely is a conductor and/or orchestra that 'locked in' to the soloist and the music being played.
Don't know if any of that ever gets communicated in a recording? Maybe that's why she hasn't penetrated your 'orbit'.
All I meant was that I hadn't heard very many of her recordings. In fact, I've heard hardly any of her recent ones.
My favorite ever recording of the Kreutzer.
It was already THERE!
From two years ago.
Have you recommended it here in the past?
Yep!
OK, this time I promise to listen! :-)
Finally got to hear their take on the 'Kreutzer'.
Worth the wait!
This music appears to be right in the middle of Augustin Dumay's comfort zone.
