"from a 15ips tape."
Really hard to choose between Maazel's and Ansermet's. Both magical, the DGG astonishingly well-recorded, though the recording palm still goes to Decca.
I don't think that either has been surpassed, so once again, I have to break my pledge to only support living artists.
Releasing it before April 18 was pretty evil though. : ) Uncle Sam gest very jealous.
Follow Ups:
The Maazel recording on vinyl is one of the best I have. The performances are wonderful, and the sense of space his just stunning.
in that recordings. Fantastic singing, especially Berbie as Le feu.
Maazel's is a bit dark, Ansermet's more light. In any case I marvel over Ravel's imagination.
I went ahead and bought the Ansermet DSD file, but my Marantz can't play it, even with Audirvana.
I don't know if they will let me trade it in for a .flac or DSD 64 version. If not, perhaps I can offer it to someone else here....
