I never bought much from Tower. Their prices were way too high and I
could get the same product - usually - from my local retailers cheaper.
But I did enjoy going in there to fondle the merchandise and see what
was available. Their one saving grace as I recall was the presence of
lots of Japanese reissues that I couldn't get elsewhere - so I paid
Towers' price. I do miss the place.

and Tower had a major presence in Japan that iirc outlasted its US business. I had a client who owned a small classical record label and was able to get me some CDs from Tower in Japan (which he did business with) that were not issued in the US for legal reasons.
Tower did have lots of sale $1 bins. I spent a lot of time at both the Tower in downtown Chicago and the one near Northwestern university. I could spend 4 hours there
