Thad Jones conducting Basie band with Nancy Wilson and Joe Williams singing after a few tunes by the band. If you like this kind of music its really worth watching/listening.
Follow Ups:
Seriously, Cecil has some serious chops.
Freddie Green.
Usually unnecessary.
Some of me greatest musical memories of are hearing the Basie band with The Count beaming at the helm.
?
Why play one note when thousands will do!
.
Incredible group.
I heard the group live in Kansas City at a renovated theater for 75th birthday celebration, with Sarah Vaughan and Marian McPartland, along with the Basie band and the master himself.
The greatest thing about Count Basie was his magical ability to give the music drive and beauty with way fewer notes played than anyone else.
Kind of the anti Art Tatum!
(I swear Art Tatum would play thirty notes or MORE, for every one of Count Basie.. PLAYING THE SAME TUNE.. LOL)
Anyway, Count Basie is my Hero for his wonderful style.
I love Basie. I mean, I LOVE HIM!! This version of his band preserves
his legacy perfectly.
... tailor.
Thanks, Rick.
