deal with downloads, streaming and which 9.1 (or whatever) sounds the best and still have time to play and listen to music, you are NOT in your dotage.

Of course, having said that, I must admit that I haven't been listening as much over the past year as in previous years. There are all sorts of reasons for this - and The Classical Shop download manager is only one of them! ;-)
Still, for an oldie-but-goodie performance (and recording!) of the Nutcracker Suite, Markevitch is well worth considering (even if you don't like fast tempos!):

Your comment reminds me of one of Sir Thomas Beecham taking a fast tempo for ballet " That'll make the buggers hop".
