A lot of my DG CDs have this on them. Even some Digital DDD recordings. What exactly is this? Thanks.
Sounds like fancy talk for the (now) common process of creating a master at 20/24-bit resolution and downsampling & dithering (aka "noise shaping")for 16-bits. Sony calls it "Super Bit Mapping (SBM)", EMI has "ART", BMG has UV22, and DG calls theirs "Original Image Bit Processing". The algorithms, names, patents, etc. may be slightly different, but they do essentially the same thing - add a small ammount of controlled noise to a digital signal to help improve low level sound resolution, then "mapping" or "shaping" the noise out of hearing range.
it's marketing nonsense. Mike
Hey -- this is an even better answer than mine :)
