I am a big Schnabel fan and have seen the very positive reviews of the Pristine set. So should I get the mono or the ambient stereo?
Follow Ups:
I'd try to find copies of the Pearl CD's, transferred by Seth Winner. If those aren't available, then the Naxos discs, transferred by Mark Obert-Thorn.
You've heard the Pristine? I have the Pearl and Naxos, curious about the Pristine.
I've heard the free samples. I prefer Winner or Obert-Thorn, especially the former.

This gets tricky. It all depends on your personal preference. I'm a purist and prefer to respect the original producer's conception of the sound, unless there is something seriously wrong. So I chose the Mono.
Andrew Rose claims the Ambient Stereo is minimal, but he does impose his conception of what the recording should sound like.
He offers both. Decide what you would prefer. I'm satisfied with the Mono version.
Back in "the day", "electronically reprocessed for stereo" usually meant gawd-awful sound. I'll believe otherwise when I hear it, but until then, I'll always prefer original mono.
