Do they sound different if assuming they are all 1S. Are they using the same stamper etc.?
Follow Ups:
I have a number of British made RCA re-isues of shaded dogs and Victrolas that I like very much. I also have a number of American original shaded dogs that I don't like at all. So it may depend.1s is collector's issue, has nothing to do with quality IMO.
Should probably be in vinyl room, but anyway; the 1/s etc business is overrated. I have a pretty revealing system and they sound the same to me. I believe that they make a mother stamper and then many more from that. There were two pressing facilities in US and one is supposed to be better than the other, I can't remember which. There is tons of info in vinyl asylum. The US pressings are preferable in sound, however, and I agree.
I agree with this, in fact the whole "shaded dog" obsession is a bit over the top for me. I have a later German RCA pressing of the Heifetz/Munch Beethoven concerto that has great sound. The flimsy American "Dynaflex" discs do sound worse to me, but when RCA returned to the thicker vinyl in the late 70s, at least some sound at least as good as the original shaded dogs.Right now I'm listening to a CD-R I made from a poor condition shaded dog LP of the Franck D minor symphony with Munch and the Boston Symphony. I tried to filter out the clicks and pops, but this one was just too far gone. I'll just get a later edition -- or the cd!
