I just have to say, after listening to the Complete Blue Note recordings by Keith Jarrett, that Allmusic Guide really led me astray. I will quote it here:
"Throughout the three nights at the Blue Note, the interplay among the musicians is consistently outstanding. Those listeners concerned about Jarrett's tendency to "sing along" with his piano have little to fear for, other than occasional shouts and sighs, he wisely lets his piano do the talking."
This is absolutely wrong. I have many Jarrett recordings. The Blue Note by far has massive amounts of grunts, squeals, etc. Damn near every song has a tremendous amount of moaning. I swear it sounds like Jarrett is getting serviced by a cheap hooker while he is playing.
The playing is awesome. The band is in fine form. But Jarrett's vocals are all over the place. This reviewer got it wrong big time.

Jarrett's vocalizing on this material doesn't bother me at all, because the performances and recordings are so great. Having seen him a few times now, I also have a better appreciation for how much energy he expends - and how completely his whole being seems to be "at one" with what he's playing. I hate use such a "new-agey" term as "at one" - just didn't know quite how else to say it. I guess my point is that I think if I were playing like him I might have to release vocally too. In any case, getting the box set of this material was one of the best music decisions I've made.
