Where's the best place to start for Django CD's? The recent "Jazz in Paris" releases on the Gitanes label are well reviewed. Has anyone listened to these?
Follow Ups:
Was going through the Django catalog on Amazon and saw this recording. Is it good?

If you are referring to For Django, by Joe Pass, that's a tribute to Django, featuring Django-written tunes, but the playing style is Joe's, not Django's. Joe is more swing /mainstream style and one of the best guitarists ever, IMHO. For Django is considered one of Joe's best albums (Virtuoso is another).
Follow the other recommendations to hear Django himself. A modern Django sound-alike is Bireli Lagren, and Frank Vignola comes close when he wants to.

I bought this 5 disc set on the JSP label and I'm very happy with the sonics, the packaging and the price! It's one helluva good buy. I would imagine the Mosaic might sound better overall but I have not heard that set. This JSP is nice, though. No glaring problems and really pretty good overall sound. Seems to me I paid about $30 for the 5 discs, new.

Unsurprisingly, given my implicit recommendation of it a few days ago. Marvellous in every way. Incidentally, the remastering was accomplished by Ted Kendall, student of the late John R T Davies whose efforts in this field are well though of and documented. There is a second and third boxset to consider as well.

Big J.
Get the Mosaic box set; it might be expensive, but it is WELL worth
it.
I've listened to "Swing from Paris" from the "Jazz in Paris" series. It is a 24 bit remastered CD from works originally recorded in the late 30's by the Quintette du Hot Club de France. It is a good representation of Reinhardt's and Grappelli's work of that period. The sound is amazingly good given the date of the original.
