Thanks!-- I guess we wait for the reactions / adversities of copper-coated aluminum wire. I hope there's a better source for aluminum foil--I'm not inclined to cull foil from a lot of expensive foil caps. What's that stuff that's used for window security?Anyway, I've bought the wire from Magnepan. To me, uv isn't the primary concern, but rather oxidation as a consequence of exposure to the atmosphere--I prefer to treat the aluminum wire in order to provide a buffer to oxidation (I'm told I exhude a poisonous atmosphere...)

I'm having to rewire the tweeter panels of my MG1s and I just spoke with a tech at Magnepan.According to him, the wire they're selling already is coated.

I think "soaking" just the wire in glue prior to attachment would also provide UV and oxidation protection. The foil used for window alarms(Radio Shack) usually incudes some Tin so it will tear easily if the glass is broken. This is not what one wants for a speaker panel.
Naturally, you can cut household aluminum foil with a razor and straight edge. Again, change the blade frequently, oil the cut line, hold blade at an accute angle. I put down a couple layers of mylar packing tape on my bench to cut into. I think the thin 20 micron foil would be best. Only $3 to experiment.
