  I have a FV 350, currently running a pair of biro L/1s. I have used it to good effect with MMGs, and am planning to swap over to the MMGs full time for a few months until I figure out what speakers to use next. Good emotional engagement with the maggies, although the MMGs are a bit rough. I'm somewhat tempted to get a pair of 1.6s.

  I have also run Tympani 1(u)s with Van Alstine stuff, including Fet Valve, and it works well. Van Alstine stuff is pretty good at offering up gobs of power, making it a pretty good match for maggies.

    It's probably something in your signal chain. The MMG's, like all Maggies, are VERY revealing of anything upstream of 'em. Maybe that's why I think they sound their best with tubes...I have YET to hear ANY SS amp of any persuasion sound as grain free as a good tube amp, but my Forte 4a comes close.
