Don't lose sleep over the Vandersteen 5s. Yes, the sound-stage performance is phenomenal: that is their strong point. The bass is very powerful. However, the midrange sucks. I could not live with them.

The B&Ws can be tweaked to have decent sound, but I agree with you regarding a standard setup.
