Lack of skill dictates economy of style. - Joey Ramone
I just listened to a few moments on my computer speakers and it sounds like a winner. I can't wait to listen to it on one of my "good" systems.
Thanks.
Lovely track. What an absolutely amazing time to be a music lover. I sub to Amazon prime, so I get the music for I think an extra 10 bucks. Amazon has nice classical library ;)Plus I listen to Radio Paradise. More, more, more?
I mainly listen to my ridiculous collection of legacy media. Listening to Tschaikovsky this Fall. I refuse to abandon Tchaikovsky to the barbarians. His orchestral suites are his best format. The symphonies can pack a whallop, but I love his "pastoral" vision. Also, currently digging Malcolm Arnold. Same deal: his smaller suites.
A seldom mentioned topic is listening volume. My routine volume position is ~8:30 or 75db peaks. That is only slightly above a conversation level.
Here is my point re: why planars? I think it might hold true for dipoles in general but all I know are ML's older models and past 15 years and currently Magnepans. LRS's + a ML Depth sub do my 17x12x9 room fine. But, I only listen loud when I'm cranking a dead show or some EVH or anything that Jimmy Page touches. In normal listening planars/dipoles can fill the room without overloading the listening spot. The room is nicely filled and the sound is lovely anywhere, really.
My wager would be box speakers can overload the listening area before they properly pressurize the room for "modest volume" listening. I never find myself missing my Snell D's for my routine listening: I miss the rroom-lock their ample low end could have on the room at rocking levels.
My LRS' "fill" the room with a non-fatiguing sound that is similar to the pressure levels at the listening position. I think this is a big part of why music just hangs there, free of the panels and any boxiness.
On this NAxos Tchaikovsky disc (550728) there are some high triangle accents. They appear outside the right panel, and you can hear it is in the back.
I've found panels perfect for "your ears will thank you" listening routines. Lovely ability to scale at low volumes. And that dipole magic. That has to be the key.
EDIT: and god bless the rule of thirds.
