Use a x-over set at 100Hz, so that the low frequency does not go to the Quads...
Should improve the sound greatly!

Have you actually done this? If so, what kind of sub are you referring to?
There seems to be so much controversy about using a sub with Quads. I had a set of the Gradient "subs" for ESL-63s which weren't really subs at all if you think subs should cover ca. 25Hz or so up to the crossover point. The Gradient's crossover point was too high and muddied up the sound of the Quads. I sold them.
I wonder if any dynamic sub would work with Quads because of the inherent sluggishness of a driven cone to start and stop playing while the Quad's bass is coherent and fast as the rest of the spectrum.
Interested in a little more detail!
Thanks
I have a SS amp w/ a x-over at the input from the pre that splits the signal at 100Hz - above 100 Hz goes out to my tube amp to drive the '57s, below 100Hz goes to the SS amp to drive woofers in a sealed box w/ a volume pot.
The set up was built/designed by R. Modjeski.
I have used it in a few different settings and found it to work well.
No, I do not get crashing howitzer booms to rock the room from the 1812, but it is a seamless and lets the quads sing w/o the 90Hz bloom in the original config. Which may be the best part of it!
Happy Listening
What crossover are you using? The last subs I used with the 63's were Vandersteen's 2Wq's, but I changed the caps in the 63's to blend at 170 Hz. I tried various crossovers but never found one I liked. With the 57's I would like to take your advice and blend at 90-100 Hz. Thank-you.
Thank-you, I will try it.
