I agree on that. Is there a way to wash the cloth?
Follow Ups:
I washed my old off whites on my 3.5R's. Laid them down on floor on big cardboard sheets I had and swiped wifeys foam carpet cleaner. Scrubbed them easily full length with a soft fingernail brush, swiped that too, 4" wide soft brush, vacuumed them damp and let dry overnight. Turned out fine. All dirt and stains gone. I had the new black socks already on so if I botched the cleaning job it was no big deal. The old whites looked so good clean I re-installed them back on the frames.
They look OK and play fine in my little budget downstairs system.
So you didn't remove the grilles from the speaker?
I just removed the front white socks with the plastic angle brackets attached to the socks. Then cleaned them while on the floor on the cardboard. I had the speaker panel itself laying front up on my bar counter top on a thick folded blanket. Made it easy to work on all 4 sides. No staples to remove just the 4 angle brackets.
There is need to remove staples, you can remove the whole front by unscrewing from the back.
