Return to Planar Speaker Asylum

Long time lurker, first time poster.
I have a line on a pair of Tympani III. $750, refurbished <10 years ago. No box, unfortunately. It seems like these speakers are rarer than other Tympani models (I can't find much info on them). But, they are absolutely massive: EIGHT panels (two, two-panel midrange/tweeters + a four-panel bass set) that are 16" x 71".
My listening room is 12' x 17.5' x 8'. It's a combined living room + kitchen. I have a pair of 3.5's, powered by Odyssey Stratos monos, that sound phenomenal. I sit 130" from the speakers (currently experimenting with tweeters out). The 3.5's straddle the line between merely being 'imposing' and 'dominating' the space.
Obviously, the space is not ideal for the eight-panel Tympani III's. I probably won't have a larger listening room for 5+ years, and that room would only come after a cross-country move. But, I don't foresee coming across a smaller Tympani set at this price point and condition any time soon. Should I take the plunge?
Follow Ups:
The room is maybe on the small side for 8 panels, but I'm guessing it would still sound great.
I'd at least try the bass panels with your 3.5's tho...
As much as I would love more bass...I live in Washington, D.C., and my downstairs neighbor happens to be a Senator I quite like.
I have a set of Tympani IIIA. They worked surprisingly well even in a small room, like 12.5 x 10 x 7 feet, although with a limited listening area. Also used them in a larger room, 20 x 13 x 8 feet. Mine were heavily converted many years ago. I disliked the vague imaging and removed the drivers from the flimsy baffles and placed them in a different frame, including cutting off the edge around the tweeter to have it as close as possible to the mid. The drivers were grouped in two speakers, bass+bass+mid+tweeter each side. Active crossover set at 100 Hz, 4th order (24 dB/octave). Now my IIIA is out of order, need new wiring and new Mylar for mids and tweeters. If I get time for it, I will re-wire the basses, have all the material for it.
Interesting. Have you had other Maggie models that had better imaging?
Yes. I have three sets of different Tympanis and a pair of MG 3.6 (used now). Best imaging from Tympanis IVa and MG 3.6. These have their mids and tweetets closer together and there is little directional information from their bass drivers. Tympani ID have directional information from all its drivers.
Also, if anybody has any information about/experience with the Tympani III's, it'd be much appreciated.
