Hello, Just acquired some Tympani IV. Took the socks off of the panels and the bass panels need rewiring. They are all corroded. Took one of the tweeter and midrange and they look ok. Haven't taken the other tweeter and midrange panel socks off. Both of the tweeter looks good. Just the bass panels need work. Is there a source for the wire other than Magnepan. I have went to there web site and it looks like they are not sending any parts out.
Thanks
Follow Ups:
Magnepan prefer calling them! Ask for the service department. They do not show an E-Mail address but they have several. I know of no other source for the coated (insulated) aluminium wire they use but I advice to buy a kit from them. The kit is wire and adhesive. You should be quick, the adhesive cannot be sent during the winter, it is water based.
Just call Magnepan, voice message stated that they are not selling any parts unless warranty.
What a pity! That will make it difficult to restore old Magnepan speakers.
Maybe it has something to do with this? https://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/vt.mpl?f=mug&m=246672
They lost their production manager, who was also doing double duty as service manager. They have a new manager now who is dealing with the production backlog, and I think they'll be hiring a new service manager as well.
Was that Gary Edwards? I have dealt with him a couple of times.
Yep -- he was there for many, many years, I think.
I'm going to call MWS wire industries today when they open. They are in California 2 hour different from me. They website states that they have aluminum wire all different gauges and insulated.

I have also contacted a company near me (Europe) but I know from earlier that it use to be difficult to get small quantities. AWG 25 is used for the basses of many Tympanis (ID, IV and IVa).
Once I find a source is it difficult to replace the wire.
I redid a pair of IIc and removal of the wires was easy, paint with acetone let sit a bit, not long it evaps very quickly, and then lift up the wire. Since the acetone will wick to most of the panel, good that you are doing a bass panel and not trying to protect a tweeter from the fluid. Once the wire is pulled up, wipe the Mylar with acetoned paper towels till clean...a couple/three should be fine.
But before you do any of the removal, make a detailed map of exactly how the wiring is laid out. Haven't been in the Tympani woofer but the Magnepans I have opened has double runs on some magnetic fields (gaps between the magnets) where you want the wires to rest. I'd make the map and get some good pictures to verify for those times you are making a turn and don't know where to go next.
Not knowing what glue you will be using, I'll leave installing the wiring to another post. I did it freehand instead of using a jig and it came out fine but not exactly perfectly aligned. Speakers sounded great though. I don't think the wire cares if it is off by an mm here and there or the loops aren't exactly perfect.
Wasn't that DIFFICULT, so much as tedious.
I had purchased the repair kit directly from Magnepan, and the directions included helped a LOT.
Took a fair amount of time, and had to have a VERY large flat space to do the work. Obviously, you will need an even larger space for the Tympanis.
Hope your project turns out well!
Did you use a fixture to reattack the wire.
... making sure you run the wire along the lines of holes (ie. centred between the magnet strips).
Once all the wire is laid - use a 6v or 12v SLA (with a 5w or 10w series resistor to limit the current flow to, say, 250ma) to pass current through the wire and cause it to be attracted to the magnets.

The company I contacted told me the minimum order was 1152 kg!
MWSwire is going to send me a quote for 800ft
Interesting!
I talk to Ken at Magnepan today and I had a very good conversation with him. To my surprise I was able to order the wire repair kit. MWSwire gave me a quote and it was way to much. You can order from them but at a high price.
Thanks Andy for the information. What the ohm of the resistor. My power supply has a current limiter on it, so I can limit the current. So I don't need a fixture if I run current threw the wire.
set it at 500ma.
Just make sure you've marked which end of the panels are the +ve end. :-))
Andy
Thanks Andy
So it will be possible to buy the wires from Magnepan even in the future?
It seems like you can buy wire and tweeter replacement. It's certain things you can't get from them.
Also do anyone have the Tympani IV manual I can't find it on the web.
The manual, https://1drv.ms/b/s!AvzjTm87GsmDriEUnidSM-1qm-nr?e=NVpDoL
Roger thanks for the manual
