Tube Traps were the first traps that I had ever seen in this hobby and come in a variety of designs.
which were instrumental in getting particularly linear bass results. Mine were built almost twenty years ago from a DIY recipe found here.
I found the most effective use was all of the 18 inchers placed behind the stats and the twelves elsewhere in the room. ;)
I've had 3 listening spaces now over a couple decades. I never got around to room treatment -- but tube traps where my aim if I did.
I think it has to do with my personal preferred listening level, which is low-end of moderate. Even a rock record I seldom am going to decide to burn a few more out and do 80+ peaks. And, it is at higher volume levels I noticed room problems interfering way too much. I live a quiet life: music slightly above conversation level is a ruckus.
