Thank you for your thoughtful and informative review. Seems like a no brainer. I own the old XPA 1 mono blocks and they work well with my 1.7'(has to add an inductor to round out the sound and now use in in the balance mode which improved it a lot.) But what happened to the mono blocks (T700)you mention? Were they Vincent amps? Are their Vincent mono blocks?
A big difference between the XPA-1s and the XPA-2 besides being mono blocks is all of the filter capacitors are wired in parallel giving you I believe 180,000uF of capacitance! You will never run out of current and I have to believe that makes a big difference. I considered getting a pair of DR1s but I'm not totally on board with switch mode power supplies, but I could be wrong about that. Yes the T700s are Vincent mono blocks that run the first 10 watts in class A. My experience with this SP 332 tells me that covers a lot more operating room than I thought. But they cost 4,000.00dollars. Who knew that I was probably only using no more than 20 watts of a 500 watt amp! That's not to say any dinky little amp can handle the Maggie's. Besides the tubes in the front end of the SP332 I have to believe that the 80,000uF of capacitance is what makes the 250 watts into four ohms work.
Thanks....I truly enjoy the set up as I pay a lot of organ music. The amps are powerful enough to give hints of the bottom pedal octaves. The problem with these amps is they are heavy as hell.
One suggestion on the 1.7's. Weight the legs. I use two pound raw iron exercise barbells. They really made a big difference .;it is $16 experiment Enjoy your set up-I cannot believe how wonderful the 1.7's are. They respond to even the most modest changed.
I have the 1.7s on Mye Stands and they are worth every penny. Seriously, it's like going up a model.
Even better They smoother with the Mye stands than the 3.7 when naked. Had not the space for the MYe as I have the amps behind the speakers.
If you don't have enough room behind your speakers to fit amps with Mye Stands you don't have them away from the back wall far enough.
NOT A DEDICATED ROOM. Nothing can be done except room treatment. The weights do something very different from the MYE stands by using the heavy oak flooring as a sound board which is focused by sculptures and tapestries Makes for a large realistic sound stage. With the 1l7's you have the poswer of sound shaping.
